Swanky Geezer Nonsense
as ‘Gangster Number One’, ‘Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’, ‘Sexy Beast’, as well as giving affectionate nods to ‘The Long Good Friday’ and ‘Performance’. However, it is not at all necessary to know any of the above. You can just feel slightly smug when you get all the references. With a stunning soundtrack and visually riveting video projection Swanky GeezerNonsense captures the feeling of the genre perfectly whilst sticking the boot in at the same time. Swanky Geezer Nonsense follows the fall of flashy bloke gangster, Eddie Mohair. Eddie used to be top dog in his manor, but things have gone seriously pear-shaped. Somebody has slashed the tyres on his motor, burnt his nightclub-stroke-jellied gaffe to the ground, and poisoned his old Mum. Still the hardest man in his own head, Eddie sets about trying to find out who’s behind it all, and in so doing runs up against a variety of old mates, enemies and informants. These include his mentor, legendary hard man, Harry the Bastard, his former cell mate, Kenny the Mince, a seriously crazy Russian hit man, a grass called Weasel, and a taxi driver who is writing a screenplay about gangsters because he thinks there’s a gap in the market.
This is an East End live theatre flashy bloke gangster epic with knobs on. Reviews: ‘Swanky Geezer Nonsense is one of the funniest two-handers I’ve seen for a long time. It is full of excellent physical comedy, the text is beautifully structured with wonderful flights of fancy, and bouts of great slapstick. I thoroughly recommend this piece.’
‘A genre ripe for satire and here comes Big Wow Theatre Company to tear it all apart. A one hour and twenty minute non-stop show of sustained energy from the two performers, ever ready to take the daftness that one step further.’
“..Explosively funny work from this highly talented and creative duo – an hilarious evening which leaves you still laughing when you leave the theatre.”
