The Company

Big Wow are:

Performers:

  • Matt Rutter
  • Tim Lynskey

Director:

  • Bob Farquhar.

In 2002 Big Wow began in its embryonic from as a twosome Matt Rutter and Tim Lynskey who hit upon a remarkable idea of how to get free beer out of a local theatre.  We would perform a series of 15 minute shorts in the bar of the theatre after the main event had finished, and in exchange the theatre would give us booze.  To our surprise the Unity theatre agreed to this idea and we created our first short ‘Hunters’.  This was our first performance and was very well received by an audience of our best mates.  It was shortly after this when Big Wow became what it is today.  After seeing our performance a well known local playwright / director Bob Farquhar decided that he wanted to get involved as director.  He did, it worked well, we created some stuff, called ourselves Big Wow, simple as that.

Although a very new theatre company, and influenced and inspired by other companies such as The Right Size and Ridiculusmus, as well modern comic performers such as Vic and Bob and The Fast Show, ‘BIG WOW’ has evolved an anarchic, highly energetic madness all of its’ own.   In just under three years we have produced both ‘EXTRA HAPPY HAPPY’, our second show ‘SWANKY GEEZER NONSENSE’, about fourteen shorts, two half hour radio pieces, Oscar and Tango private security and The infamous Lougabrouga brothers.

All in all we’ve been quite busy.

The company was started by three people who wanted to entertain audiences and make them laugh (a lot!).  With this in mind we created our mission statement:

“Turning pissing around into an art form.”

BIG WOW are silly, satirical, rude, and if audience reaction is to be believed, very funny.
